A Kitten or a Roaring Lion

What do you see when you look in the mirror?

Do you see a kitten or a lion? God sees a beautiful, strong, majestic, priestly lion, no matter how small and insignificant we may feel about ourselves. We all have the capacity to serve as children of God. Each of us can do much just where we are! Romans 8:37 tells us, “In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”

We are blessed at Sunnyside by a kind and loving “family.” It is not only the staff and volunteers who serve the residents, it is residents who serve staff AND each other.

For example, Liz and others help by folding laundry. Ethel is faithful in finding the first hymn and handing out the hymn books to guests and residents in Chapel services.

I gave out some musical instruments for the residents to “Make a joyful noise” one Friday evening at Vespers. A resident was having trouble working out how to move it so that it would make a noise. While I was busy leading out in the hymn, I was touched to see Vincent reach across, take the instrument, show the person next to him how it worked and gently hand it back to her. Then she was able to make the “joyful noise.” Bertha and Ruth are taking it in turns to lead out in prayer at our Worship times. Linda, one of our able-bodied residents, helps to push the wheelchairs of friends who are feeling tired. Ben keeps an eye on his companions’ Bingo cards as well as his own, in case they miss a number.          Each of us has a part to play. Each of us is important and each of us is irreplaceable.

Blessings to you, all!
